Second Sunday of the month (2:00 – 4:00 p.m.), from fall until spring.
Folk music is tied to a longstanding tradition of building community by sharing stories through music. There are deep ties formed when individuals come together to share in an afternoon of making music, and the historic Bailey Theatre is proud to provide a space for that to happen this season. Whether you’re a musician or a music enthusiast, you’re sure to find all the fullness and richness of the Folk tradition at Songbook Sunday, an acoustic song circle and open mic happening the second Sunday of every month.
The matinee will be hosted by local artist Leslie Lindballe. Everyone is welcome to come and play on one of the finest stages in Alberta. The program will start by exploring the foundation of Folk music – participation – with everyone welcome to grab a songbook and sing or play along. Of course audiences are welcome at this family event.
Solo acts or groups are then welcome to showcase their own strengths in an open mic format. Finally, an all-inclusive jam will fill the stage with talent. The goal here is to provide Central Alberta musicians with a place to come and share themselves and their work, in hopes of generating connection through song. Come out and experience the deep joy of participatory music.
